The Norwegian Institute for Water Research is a national research institute organized as a private foundation. The institute is Norway’s leading competence centre for environmental and resource issues relating to the field of water. NIVA carries out research and monitoring, as well as innovation and development work. NIVA plays a vital role in water resources management as a provider of research-based studies and advisory services on water related issues. NIVA has over the years contributed to projects in over 70 countries. The institute has participated in projects under all the Framework Programmes and was part of 25 projects under the EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). NIVA has been partner in more than 20 projects in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7), incl. the projects WISER, REFRESH and MARS. Further, the institute is partner in an additional eight projects in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020).
